Peugeot Boxer Battery Going Flat
Our customer brought in their Peugeot Boxer van with a battery that kept going flat whenever it was left unused for more than a day. The battery had already been replaced a year earlier, but the problem had continued and gradually got worse over time. Our Peugeot specialist technicians carried out a detailed battery drain investigation to track down the root cause.

Peugeot Boxer Diagnostics
We started by scanning the vehicle for fault codes, which returned C1200, B1029, B10AA and U1733. A full battery test showed that, despite being a 900 amp unit, the battery was only reading 600 amps and needed recharging. The charge rate measured a healthy 14.2 volts both loaded and unloaded, ruling out the charging system. With a battery drain now suspected, we fitted a donor battery and carried out drain testing, which showed a significant draw of 0.260 amps. Checking every fuse, we found a 10 amp fuse with volt drop across its terminals, and removing it dropped the draw to just 0.005 amps. This circuit powers the radio, telematic unit, DLC and heating. Removing and disconnecting the radio made no difference, but disconnecting the telematic unit brought the draw down to 0.005 amps, confirming the telematic unit as the cause of the Peugeot Boxer battery going flat.

Telematic Unit Replacement
Our technicians replaced the faulty telematic unit and then carried out a proxi alignment, so the new unit was correctly configured and communicating with the rest of the vehicle's network. It's worth knowing that the Citroen Relay is mechanically the same as the Peugeot Boxer, so if your Relay has a battery drain problem, a faulty telematic unit is a likely cause there too.
Resolution
With the new telematic unit fitted and configured, the battery drain was eliminated and the battery now holds its charge as it should. The Peugeot Boxer is back to being reliable, and our customer no longer has to worry about a flat battery after leaving the van for a day or two.
