Clutch Repairs & Replacements
Your clutch is what allows power to transfer smoothly from the engine to the gearbox, and it naturally wears over time with everyday driving. If your clutch is slipping, juddering or the pedal doesn't feel right, our technicians at our Worthing and Sompting garages can find the cause and get it fixed. Catching the early signs before it fails completely can help avoid being left stranded, and often keeps the cost of repair down.
Clutch, Cylinder & Flywheel Repairs
Quality Clutch Repairs, Backed by a Warranty
We carry out full clutch replacements, slave and master cylinder replacements, and dual mass flywheel replacements on all makes and models, including dual-clutch gearboxes such as Volkswagen DSG, Audi S tronic and Ford PowerShift. We only fit quality parts, so every repair comes with a 12-month/12,000-mile national parts warranty, plus our workmanship guarantee for as long as you own the vehicle, giving you real peace of mind long after you've driven away.

Signs Your Clutch Needs Replacing
If you notice any of the following, it's worth getting your clutch checked before it fails completely.
Engine revs rise but the car doesn't speed up (clutch slipping)
Spongy or sticking clutch pedal
Burning smell, especially after hard acceleration or hill starts
Juddering when pulling away, or vibration through the clutch pedal
Grinding or difficulty changing gear, especially into reverse
Our Clutch Repairs & Replacements
From full clutch replacements to cylinder and flywheel repairs, we cover every part of the system. We'll always inspect your vehicle and confirm the exact fault before agreeing a price, so there are no surprises once work begins.

Full Replacement
Clutch Replacement
When your clutch plate, pressure plate or release bearing has worn out, we'll replace the full clutch assembly with quality parts, backed by a national warranty and our lifetime workmanship guarantee.

Hydraulic System
Clutch Slave Cylinder Replacement
The slave cylinder uses hydraulic pressure to operate your clutch. If it fails, you may notice a spongy pedal or difficulty changing gear, and it will need replacing to restore proper clutch control.

Hydraulic System
Clutch Master Cylinder Replacement
Working alongside the slave cylinder, the master cylinder converts pedal pressure into the hydraulic force needed to disengage the clutch. A fault here can cause a soft or unresponsive pedal, and we'll replace it to get things working smoothly again.

Smooth Engagement
Dual Mass Flywheel Replacement
The dual mass flywheel absorbs vibrations between the engine and gearbox for smoother gear changes. Wear here can cause rattling, vibration or juddering when pulling away, and it's often worth replacing at the same time as your clutch. Dual mass flywheel wear is especially common on BMW, Audi, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz and is therefore something our German Car Specialists team sees regularly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Clutch Replacement FAQs
How do I know if my clutch is going?
Common signs include the engine revving without the car speeding up, a burning smell, a higher biting point, juddering when pulling away or difficulty getting into gear. If you notice any of these, book in for a check before it fails completely.
Can I drive with a slipping clutch?
You may be able to for a short time, but it will only get worse and could leave you stranded. We'd recommend getting it checked as soon as you can.
Why does my car squeal when I press the clutch pedal?
A squeal when you press the clutch pedal often means a part inside the clutch is wearing. It's worth getting it looked at before it causes more damage, so book in and we'll take a look.
How long does a clutch last?
Most clutches last somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles, but it depends a lot on how you drive. Lots of stop-start driving or towing can wear it out faster.
Do I need to replace the flywheel with my clutch?
Not always, but it's common. We can only check it properly once the clutch is out, so we'll let you know when we quote if it might be needed, so there are no surprises.
Should I replace my clutch when my gearbox is replaced?
Not always. We'll check your clutch while the gearbox is out and let you know if it's worth doing at the same time, as it saves you paying the labour twice.
How much does a clutch replacement cost?
It depends on your car and what needs replacing. We'll check your car and confirm the price with you before any work starts.
Do you replace clutches on automatic gearboxes?
Yes. As well as manual gearboxes, we replace clutches on many automatic gearboxes, including Volkswagen DSG, Audi S tronic and Ford PowerShift.
