Jaguar XKR Front Subframe Replacement
Our customer booked their Jaguar XKR 4.2 Auto in for an MOT and service, but it failed the MOT because the front subframe was badly corroded and seriously weakened. This is classed as a major defect, meaning a front subframe replacement was needed before the car could pass. The MOT also highlighted a faulty offside front windscreen washer and a tear in the inner wall of the offside front tyre, both also classed as major defects.
Fault Codes
No fault codes – this was an MOT failure for the following major defects:
Front subframe – corroded and seriously weakened
Windscreen washer – offside front not working
Tyre – offside front inner wall torn due to structural separation

Jaguar XKR Subframe Inspection
Following the MOT failure, we investigated the subframe further. Our MOT tester confirmed that a new subframe would be needed for the car to pass. There was a lot of rust present, along with a very large hole in the subframe. Although the hole could have been welded, replacing the whole subframe was going to be the more cost-effective and longer-lasting option for our customer.

Jaguar XKR Subframe Replacement
Once the MOT was complete, we passed the Jaguar to one of our Jaguar specialist technicians. They replaced the front subframe along with the nearside front engine mount. Because the wheel alignment must be checked and adjusted after a subframe replacement, we also carried out full four-wheel geometry work. Our technician then traced the faulty windscreen washer to a broken pipe and repaired it.
Resolution
With the new front subframe and engine mount fitted, the geometry set up correctly and the washer repaired, our customer's Jaguar XKR passed its MOT and was back on the road safely.
