Peugeot 3008 Non Start Fault
Our customer's 2018 Peugeot 3008 was recovered to us after it wouldn't start, with a battery charge fault message on the dashboard telling them to stop the vehicle. A non start can have many causes, so our technicians carried out a thorough diagnostic investigation to find exactly where the power was being lost.
Fault Codes
B1624 – Supply protection and management unit – central power switch positive relay status fault
B1602 – Main relay status fault
B1600 – CAN positive supply present but central power switch positive supply absent
Common Symptoms
- Vehicle won't start
- "Battery charge fault: Stop the vehicle" message on the dashboard
- Battery warning light on
- Exterior mirrors not folding in or out when locking and unlocking
- Battery draining when the car is left parked
Peugeot 3008 Diagnostics
We confirmed the non start fault was present when the vehicle arrived. A scan of the vehicle's control modules returned a large number of low-voltage fault codes, including B1624, B1602 and B1600, all pointing towards the supply and protection management unit. Serial data showed ignition data was present, and a visual inspection of the engine bay found no obvious faults or damage. The 12V battery was checked and wasn't the cause of the non start, but when we tested the under-bonnet fuse box we found it had no power supply. Power and ground to the supply and protection management unit were both good, and we scoped its LIN communication signal and confirmed that was working correctly too. Connecting a jump pack directly to the positive post in the fuse box allowed the vehicle to start, confirming an internal failure of the supply and protection management unit.

Supply and Protection Unit Replacement
On Peugeot and other PSA vehicles, the supply and protection management unit sits beside the battery and feeds power to the under-bonnet fuse box through a relay built into the module. These relays can stick either open or closed. Stuck open, as on our customer's car, they cause a non start; stuck closed, they can drain the battery. We replaced the supply and protection management unit, restoring power to the under-bonnet fuse box. While the car was with us, a battery test showed the 12V battery was down to 48% of its cold cranking amps, so we also fitted a new Varta AGM battery and coded it to the vehicle.
Resolution
With the new supply and protection unit and battery fitted, the 3008 started straight away and the battery charge fault message was gone. We checked the vehicle over to make sure everything was working as it should, leaving our customer's Peugeot reliable and back on the road.
