Toyota Avensis MOT Inspection

During the MOT, our tester found that both the front and rear brake pipes had corroded to the point of being a major defect. Brake pipes carry the hydraulic pressure that operates your brakes, so corrosion can cause them to weaken and eventually leak or burst, which is why this is treated as a serious safety issue. The tester also noted the cracked auxiliary drive belt and the condition of the brake discs as advisories, meaning they didn't fail the test but should be monitored.

Toyota Avensis Corroded Brake Pipes
Front & Rear Brake Pipe Replacement

We started by replacing the nearside front indicator repeater bulb and the offside front sidelight bulb. We then replaced both the front and rear brake pipes, along with the rear brake hoses. Once the new pipes and hoses were fitted, we bled the brake system and tested the brakes, which confirmed they were working effectively. Although the brake discs were pitted, they were still safe enough to pass the MOT.
