Since winning UK Top Garage 2018, as a team, we were buzzing and honoured to be crowned the best. Especially in such a tough industry. However, it did inspire us to do more to improve. So we set out in our mission to see what we could do to improve. This means we could continue with our core values of Impress.
We set upon ways that we could improve for the staff and customer’s benefit. We took an approach in order to be completely transparent with staff. This meant we introduced monthly meetings to gain 360 feedback and make sure everyone was happy. The team provided valuable ideas on how we could improve their working environment, and what we could be doing differently for customers. We took these steps to make sure that everyone was, and continued to be fit and healthy. This was not just physical health, but mental health too.
Winning UK Top Garage
When we returned and won the UK Top Garage title for 2019, the whole team were ecstatic and celebrated until the early hours of the morning. We are looking forward to the 2020 competition already and we are looking at what else we can do to progress. We are mastering systems and procedures we already have in place, as well as creating many more. We’re always open to feedback and ideas on ways we can improve, which is why we ask every customer to complete an honest survey after every visit.

“Worthing Garage is ‘Top Garage’ in The UK for Second Time”
“Worthing-based Cedar Garage is the winner in a national competition that identifies the best garage business in the UK, for the second year in a row.
Cedar Garage is based on two sites in the town, with one in Tarring Road and a second site in Littlehampton Road. The business has been named as the best business with more than 11 staff in UK Top Garage 2019.
Top Garage is a national competition launched in 2018 by Aftermarket Magazine to shine a light on the best garage business operating in the UK. The competition looks at all aspects, including business planning, customer care, investments and methods. Finalists appear in a live final, where experts from the sector interview the owner/managers. Hundreds of businesses entered this year. In 2018, Cedar Garage was the overall champion.
2019 Competition
2019’s competition included three sections, covering businesses of various sizes. Apart from Cedar Garage, two other garages in the UK also won. For 2019, in the up to five staff members category and six to ten staff members category respectively.
The award was received by co-owners of Cedar Garage, Kevin Pearce and Matthew Copp at the Top Technician and Top Garage Awards Dinner. This was held at the Jurys Inn Milton Keynes on Saturday 22nd June 2019. The evening was hosted by TV presenter and journalist Helen Fospero. She introduced the sponsors, who then presented the winner and runner up of Top Technicians. As well as winners of various awards within Top Garage with their prizes.
Commenting on Cedar Garage winning for the second year in a row, co-owner Kevin Pearce said: “it is brilliant to win Top Garage 2019. When we won last year, it was a massive accolade for our business. It was a victory for everyone that works here. To win again, to be fair is actually even better! It is a testament to how the team responded from last year, and how we have all strived to find new ways to improve.”
As winners of their section, Cedar Garage got their hands on a fully-loaded ZEUS diagnostic tool, courtesy of sponsors Snap-On, worth £7,999. This was presented by Snap-On Diagnostics General Manager, Mark Ost.
The Awards Dinner was held immediately after the final. Managers and owners from 20 businesses faced the panel of judges at the final. This took place at the RMI Academy of Automotive Skills in Southam, Warwickshire on Saturday 22nd June 2019. To get to this point, each business had passed through a stringent process, including online tests and mystery shopping. Contestants also had to produce a video about their business.”
